Inspiration
Having heard of gruesome incidents of human-wildlife conflicts, which resulted in serious injuries or deaths of humans, I became very interested in the wildlife-human conflict subject. Also, as a child growing up in the hinterlands of Manyu Division, where I witnessed farms destroyed by elephants I thought it would be good to work to contribute to solutions to protecting wildlife and their habitats, track wildlife hotspots, and incidents of wild-life human conflict.
What it does
It is used to track wildlife hotspots and new incidents of human-wildlife conflict, scan web pages to collate information on wildlife
How I built it
It is built using HTML coding language Microsoft Word notepad on XP-Windows 7; video presentation with Camon-15 of Techno mark
Challenges I ran into
Difficulties in connecting on-line as fast as possible, difficulty with the coding since it was the first time for me and others on the team
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We succeeded to outline a solution for the issue regarding human-wildlife conflict, suggesting the use of computers to set monitoring systems, alarms systems to track wildlife hotspots and new incidents of conflict; Web of Science database to scan web pages and social media to collate information in a usable way to inform decision-making
What I learned
I can confidently code manually using HTML coding language, I understand the issues of wildlife trafficking in other parts of Africa and beyond better now than before.
What's next for AF Joseph Etah Oben 2
To gain more skills and knowledge in coding and be properly mentored and funded to begin implementing part of the solution proposed
