Inspiration
Our generation is obsessed with curating personal aesthetics. Up until now, these endeavors have primarily been visual. We took this hackathon as an opportunity to change that.
What it does
We see pictures every day, whether it be vacation photos on Instagram, a carefully curated Pinterest board, or your coworkers baby (whether you like it or not). Aesthetify aims to translate these visuals into an auditory experience by carefully curating a personal playlist, allowing you to input the photos of your choice and letting AI take care of the rest. Pictures connect people's eyes. But music connects people's souls. Aesthetify allows users to break the barrier between senses, providing an all-new tool for self-expression.
How we built it
Aesthetify was built using a Bootstrap-aided Angular frontend. We worked primarily in Typescript and Javascript, as well as HTML and CSS. We utilized APIs from OpenAI, Imagga AI Image Tagging, and FileStack. The images uploaded by the user are sent through FileStack's uploading API, then sent through Imagga's image tagging AI, and the tags are sent to OpenAI's ChatGPT model which is instructed to use the keywords to create a playlist of 25 songs.
Challenges we ran into
Using APIs that aren't extremely well documented or widely used always comes with challenges. We experienced many challenges fetching critical information from these APIs and spent hours troubleshooting and often backtracking. We're proud to say we eventually succeeded in fully executing our original vision.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to fully integrate a ChatGPT model into our website, which was quite an undertaking but super rewarding. Additionally, we enabled intuitive user upload and AI image tagging through the use of APIs from FileStack and Imagga, allowing users to create a playlist based off of their own images. Bootstrap allowed us to make our website responsive and visually pleasing.
What we learned
We learned that no matter how much you think you know about APIs, you will never know everything. The internet can be helpful for some, but there are times when you just have to dig through the weeds by yourself. Also, AI and image tagging APIs are rare and often expensive, but they make a website extremely cool.
What's next for Aesthetify - AI Playlist Generator
We would love to integrate Spotify's API into our website, allowing the user to upload the playlist we created into their own Spotify account.
