Inspiration
The AI gives practice problems to do, inspired from the challenges in DMOJ and Khan Academy where you get points from solving the problems. However, DMOJ and Khan academy is mostly self-navigated. We wanted to create a platform that uses the incentives and content that DMOJ and Khan academy use and have, and combine that with an AI that recommends a unique learning plan for every individual student.
What it does
AESIR is a platform for students to work on problems, learn new lessons, collaborate with other students, and track their own progress. In addition, it uses an personal tutor AI system to pick out learning resources provided by schools and other online websites, as well as challenges and problems for the student. This allows every student, unique with their own strengths and weaknesses, to have a learning plan suited just for them. AESIR will use a combination of data from diagnostic tests, and other information as the user uses the platform to determine these strengths and weaknesses. It will then use points to incentivize students to work on their weaknesses by dynamically changing the allocation of points to challenges. The goal of AESIR is to allow students strong at certain subjects continue to be challenged past their grade level, and to help students struggling to keep up with the rest of their peers without feeling pressured to.
How we built it
As this is a pitch-only track, we have yet to implement this. However, if we were to build this product, we would begin with building the AI algorithms to assess students and recommend material to them. Next we would design a platform— almost like a social media site— for students to keep track on their progress and take on a variety of different challenges.
Challenges we ran into
Once we identified the issue— that personal tutors are too pricey and unavailable for most people— we struggled to come up with a reasonable solution to the problem. After thinking it through, we remembered the rapid development and research in the field of AI, and realized that we could use these
What's next for AESIR Personal Tutor
We believe the next step for AESIR is to begin designing a prototype, and building the AI algorithms to assess students and recommend material to them. After designing the AI algorithms, it would be time to build a platform where students can keep track on their progress, collaborate with others, and take on a variety of different challenges.
