Inspiration

At first glance of the theme, we both think that games are what connected us, not just the two of us but the majority of people who are participating in the Hackathon. Moreover, the passion and curiosity towards games within every one of us. Then we started looking back in time, what was the first game that drew our attention? Cool Math Games was one of the first ideas that popped out of Eric's memory. Yes! That's it. Memories started flooding out of my head. I remember how excited everyone was every Friday because that's when we had our computer science class, where we could enjoy playing computer games. We would compete against each other, share our accomplishments, and so much more. One of the games that we both still have great impressions of was Truck Loader, where the player would use a magnetic tractor to grab crates and load them into the trucks. This is where we drew our inspiration from. Additionally, this aligns with the theme of "connect," as the player will use magnetic force to make a "connection" between the cargo and the controller.

What it does

The player will use WASD/arrow keys to control the drone and hit space to enable/disable the magnetic field. Using the magnetic field, ship the cargo to the green unloading area spread throughout the level. Avoid the wall to survive.

How we built it

We used the Unity Engine.

Challenges we ran into

  • Eric had never used Unity before, so it took some time to figure things out.
  • Some implementations were a little wanky due to time constraints

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built two prototype levels
  • A functional prototype ; )

What we learned

  • How to use canvas for UI elements
  • Using effector components

What's next for Aero Shift

  • Make the textures/UI elements better
  • More levels
  • More interesting mechanics
