Inspiration for The Villa Orizzonte

We have never made a song for Halloween before. Inspired by an old friend's villa in Ticino, Switzerland (Villa Orizzonte in Castelrotto), we created The Friday Tale of Ghosts. Spooky, enchanted, yet playful, the music transports you into the world of Mathilda Friday. With the help of AI, footage, and VFX, we opened the door to the other side of our reality, but unfortunately, we were already expected...

The Story

It's another one of those stories that no one wants to believe in the end, but which happens exactly the same way every day. When it comes to ghosts, there's always plenty of discussion, judgment, and laughter. This pleases neither the storyteller nor the ghosts themselves. For they move in an in-between world, somewhere beyond life and death, far removed from our own reality, hidden behind a curtain of oblivion and worldly ignorance.

But there is a common goal that unites these stranded souls. While they persevere in their otherworld or wander restlessly, they are driven by an insatiable desire to return to our world. They want to be human again and live the life they called their own before their death. Any means seems acceptable to them, because as ghosts, they have lost one of their most important gifts: their humanity. To achieve their goal, they ruthlessly use skills they have painstakingly acquired on the other side since their demise. Welcome to poltergeists, door knockers, and night fury.

Of course, we humans are usually unaware of this ghostly battle behind the curtain between the worlds. And so it's easy to laugh about it and dismiss these events as childish nonsense and horror stories. But there are people who possess a sinister gift: they can move between the worlds of the living and the dead, or at least glimpse behind the curtain.

Mathilda Friday is one of them. She has been haunted by ghosts since childhood, and her youth was marked by rejection at school. The spirit world, however, showed great interest in her ability to mediate between the worlds. It's unclear whether her gift stems from her being born in the ancient Villa Orizzonte, a property on a hill above the rooftops of Castelrotto. Many stories have always surrounded these ancient walls, but that didn't stop Mathilda's parents from acquiring the amazing house. As owners of an antique shop, it wasn't a difficult decision anyway. Mathilda was an outsider, and strange things were constantly happening around her – not always to the benefit of her classmates and teachers. Her family had come to terms with her special condition, and Mathilda herself had also given up her initial resistance. Since then, she has used her gift to discover what the spirits on the other side are up to. One thing she quickly realised on her travels: When the dead return to our world, it will mean the end for both sides of the curtain. These two worlds belong together like two sides of a coin, and one cannot exist without the other.

During the year, ghostly activity remains at a tolerable level. But there is a special time when the barrier between our side and the Otherworld is particularly thin. A time when spirits try with all their might to penetrate our world, and when humans are more open to the supernatural. And humans: They are the key to our world. Welcome to Halloween, the time of Mathilda Friday.
