Inspiration
I am a teacher and entrepreneur. I like to make a difference where I can. My research involves predicting when sharks are in near shore waters and this involves not only looking at attack dates but dates where there are no attacks to learn predictors. This led me to be curious about why some people are exposed to COVID-19 and do not get sick.
What it does
Aegle collects data from individuals that believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 but have not gotten sick. As our history with the disease continues this will be very important.
How I built it
Due to limited time (my seven classes have been moved online due to the change in school) I used Appy Pie to quickly develop a prototype for the app for data collection. I have not created test data for the analysis but will use a cloud platform and all of the applications available to create a full data pipeline. Other data can be merged with the data collected by Aegle.
Challenges I ran into
The time constraint is a definite challenge! I want to involve my students in order to get a fully working app.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I know the idea is a good one.
What I learned
I am very appreciative for this opportunity!
What's next for Aegle:
More work to build the front end for collecting data, to get health professionals on board, and to work on the pipeline for collecting data and analyzing and evaluating the results. I also want all data to be open source of course.
