About AegisOS — Evidence Over Confidence

AegisOS is a verification-first prototype designed to make AI-assisted software development more reliable. Its goal is to help developers evaluate code changes using independent checks and execution evidence instead of blindly trusting an AI-generated patch.

What it does

AegisOS provides a dashboard for managing coding tasks and inspecting their workflow history. It tracks stages such as analysis, planning, patch generation, testing, and evaluation. Its Trace Explorer displays proposed code changes, execution status, test output, and the evidence behind a verification verdict.

The key idea is simple: generating a patch is not the same as proving that it works. A successful verification should be supported by actual test results, while insufficient evidence should lead to an inconclusive result rather than an unsupported success claim.

Technology and implementation

AegisOS uses a React and TypeScript frontend, a Python FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL for persistence, Redis for supporting workflow operations, and a sandbox runner for controlled test execution. The current prototype includes a deterministic mock provider and an independent evaluation workflow.

Demonstration

In the included demonstration, Task #37 shows a proposed change to a Python calculator and the results of two passing acceptance tests, with exit code 0. The dashboard also illustrates an inconclusive outcome when the available checks do not establish that all acceptance criteria have been satisfied.

The full failing-test execution path in the AegisOS workflow still requires additional runtime verification. The project does not claim that every verification scenario has been completed successfully.

What I learned

This project helped me practice plan-first development using the Devpost Learn Skill Pack, including project scope, product requirements, technical specifications, implementation, and testing. It also reinforced an important engineering principle: software should communicate what its evidence actually proves, not merely what its developers hope is true.

AegisOS is an evolving proof of concept, with future work focused on more comprehensive runtime verification, stronger test evidence, and safer execution of untrusted code.
