  1. Which developer tools, APIs, and SDKs did you use and for what? We used the Model Context Protocol Python SDK (mcp / FastMCP configured for Spec 2025-11-25 Streamable HTTP transport on /mcp), the AWS Strands Agents SDK (strands-agents, MCPClient), Amazon Bedrock (BedrockModel with Claude 3.7 Sonnet), FastAPI/Uvicorn, and a custom web-based Alexa+ / Fire TV / Ring multimodal simulator using the Web Speech API.

  2. What worked well? FastMCP's decorator architecture (@mcp.tool, @mcp.resource, @mcp.prompt) with transport="streamable-http" made spinning up a spec-compliant 2025-11-25 server fast and readable. Connecting strands.tools.mcp.MCPClient to the local Streamable HTTP endpoint worked cleanly alongside FastAPI.

  3. What needs work? First, mcp v2.x recently introduced a breaking rename (FastMCP to MCPServer) that breaks existing v1 tutorials and starter samples unless developers explicitly pin "mcp<2" in requirements.txt. Second, MCP tool responses currently lack a native typed content block for multimodal Alexa+ Adaptive Cards/Carousels, requiring JSON stringification inside TextContent arrays. Third, browser-based MCP protocol inspectors hit strict Accept header (application/json, text/event-stream) rejections unless wrapped by an API bridge.

  4. How was your onboarding experience (getting from zero to hello world)? Getting from zero to hello world took roughly 30 minutes once we pinned mcp<2 to resolve the v2.x breaking import change and configured our Python 3.14 Windows launcher environment. Having the FAQ clarify that self-hosted Streamable HTTP MCP servers can be demonstrated via a custom web simulator removed gating friction.

  5. Would you build with these devices and services again? Yes/No and why? Yes — combining the open MCP 2025-11-25 Streamable HTTP standard with AWS Strands Agents SDK and Amazon Bedrock allows a single backend tool definition to power voice assistants (Alexa+), ambient screens (Fire TV), and physical security triggers (Ring) simultaneously.
