Inspiration
Financial markets move incredibly fast, but understanding what is happening often requires jumping between multiple websites, charts, news feeds, and data sources. I wanted to build a terminal that brings the most important market information together into one focused workspace.
The project was inspired by professional financial terminals, but I wanted to create a modern version that is accessible to individual users and developers.
What I Built
I built a web-based trading terminal that combines market charts, watchlists, market movers, news, crypto, forex, and market overview data into a single interface.
The goal was not simply to display numbers, but to make large amounts of financial information understandable at a glance. The interface is designed around an information-dense terminal layout while remaining usable and responsive.
The project was built using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, SWR, Lightweight Charts, and REST APIs for market data.
How I Built It
I structured the application into independent components for different areas of the terminal, including the watchlist, chart, news feed, market overview, market movers, cryptocurrency, and forex panels.
I used React and Next.js for the application architecture, TypeScript for type safety, Tailwind CSS for the interface, SWR for efficient data fetching, and Lightweight Charts for financial visualization.
One of the main design goals was to make the dashboard feel like a professional trading terminal rather than a collection of unrelated widgets.
Challenges
The biggest challenge was organizing a large amount of constantly changing financial information without overwhelming the user.
I had to carefully balance information density, visual hierarchy, responsiveness, and performance. I also learned that building a financial interface is not just about displaying data—the way information is prioritized and presented can significantly change how useful the application feels.
Another challenge was designing reusable components so that new market-data sources and features could be added without rebuilding the entire interface.
What I Learned
This project taught me a lot about building data-heavy applications with React and Next.js. I gained practical experience with asynchronous data fetching, financial charting, component architecture, responsive UI design, and managing complex interfaces.
More importantly, I learned how much engineering goes into making complex information feel simple.
What's Next
This project is the foundation for a much more intelligent trading terminal.
My next goal is to evolve it from a dashboard into an intelligent market assistant that can detect unusual market activity, analyze news, identify portfolio risks, and explain significant market movements instead of simply displaying them.
The long-term vision is to build a system that helps users understand what is happening, why it is happening, and what deserves their attention.
