Inspiration
Walking home at night can be very frightening, even on college campuses. Every member of our group has had an experience with feeling unsafe when trying to get home, and we wanted an app which could help in combatting this issue.
What it does
Girlhood works to help woman feel seen, heard, and safe when walking home by providing them with an AI chat and call function to simulate real conversation and stave off unwanted pursuit. The goal of the app is to store emergency contacts, share location with trusted friends and family, and contact authorities in a second in worst case scenarios.
How we built it
Our team used Figma for the primary app building as well as Gemini AI for troubleshooting and inspiration. The coding used for css and html.
Challenges we ran into
We had troubles with converting our work on Figma to Github successfully while having both applications run successfully.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
No one in out group had ever created a Github repository on our own, so there was lots of collaboration which we had to successfully accomplish.
What we learned
We learned more about AI, software coding, Website design using code, and app development over the course of 24 hours.
What's next for GirlHood
We have plans to make theoretical features like voice call fully functioning with AI voiceovers and hardware coding as needed.
