Inspiration

As high school students, we are continuously looking for opportunities to spruce up our university applications, but we found it difficult to find one, so as a team of two, we decided to connect people, drops, and volunteer work called Adwuma Nkabom, meaning work together in our local dialect, Twi.

What it does

We provide a platform where users can apply for jobs and volunteer opportunities while tracking and recording their work for future reference.

How we built it

We use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and use the free Supabase and GoogleAuthO

Challenges we ran into

As Ghanaian students at GIU International Christian Academy, we were preparing for our mock examinations while working on this project alongside GIU Cares, a community service initiative organised by Year 12 and Year 13 students. Despite the demands of our academic commitments, we remained actively involved in the project. Notably, one of us, who was in Year 11, was entrusted with managing the project's IT operations, taking responsibility for the technical aspects that supported its execution. This role highlighted his technical skills, adaptability, and ability to contribute meaningfully to a project beyond the expectations of his year group, all while balancing his own academic responsibilities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As beginners in this competition, we gained valuable hands-on experience in JavaScript and database-driven authentication systems, two areas in which our prior knowledge was limited. Through this project, we expanded our understanding of how JavaScript enhances website functionality and how login systems interact with databases to manage user authentication. This experience strengthened our technical skills and provided us with a solid foundation for further exploration in web development.

What we learned

We learned how to code JavaScript and use a login database (Supabase).

What's next for Adwuma Nkabom (work together)

We aim to take Adwuma Nkabom to the next level by expanding our login database beyond the limitations of Supabase’s free tier. Additionally, we plan to enhance the user experience by introducing dark and light modes, giving users the flexibility to choose their preferred interface appearance.
