Problem Statement

AI tools are extremely powerful, but not often presented with an easy, out of the box experience, especially for more niche use cases. How can we make AI tools easier to use for folks who are less experienced with the entire idea of AI?

What it does

Introducing Advise.me. With our app, users can talk out any problem/issue they are having with an AI expert tailored for their specific use case- and with the power of our community, we cover almost every possible use case! Advise.me would drive AI empowerment and improve AI literacy among underrepresented communities- contributing to our overall mission of social good.

Users may select from a gallery of multimodal expert chatbots, what we call 'advisors'. These advisors can help users through any situation through context.

Building the App

Hugging face was a huge inspiration for our project. We wanted to build something like Hugging Face, but for consumers rather than developers. We came up with the idea of a consumer-oriented one stop shop for AI. We used AI tools to prototype the frontend, then moved on to building out backend features. We used Next.js and React for the frontend and a simple Python Flask server for the backend.

Challenges/Limitations

Ideally we would have a large set of trained models- both curated by us and from the community. For the hackathon, we implemented multiple/customizable chatbots using the Gemini API and clever prompt engineering techniques.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest aspect of our project we are proud of is the idea. Its surprising to us that a large corporation has not made an app like this- at least one as geared towards general consumers rather than developers. The UI/UX design is simple but sleek, elegant enough for our prototype. We implemented a variety of features and customization for your Advisors, which we are proud of.

What's next for Advise.me

Ultimately the biggest challenge is creating a reliable compendium of models. This will take effort from both the Advise.me development team and the open source community. Together with Advise.me, we can bring AI to communities around the world.
