Inspiration
Having to decide what to do with the rest of your life when you're still in high school is a big commitment. Many students, myself included, get overwhelmed with all the career options available to us. I built CareerKey to help anyone who is struggling to decide what to do with their future because I know how daunting of a task it can seem like.
What it does
By answering a few questions, youth can get personalized advice about potential career paths, as well as information regarding each option.
How I built it
CareerKey was built using python, and I used the CSV and BeautifulSoup modules to retrieve information from various websites and files.
Challenges I ran into
I had never built a web crawler or used the BeautifulSoup module before, so I had to learn how to use it and understand how it worked before implementing it into my project.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This is the second hackathon I have ever participated in, and the first hackathon I have ever participated in solo. I'm proud that I was able to build this program within the span of a weekend and also learn so much while doing it.
What I learned
Apart from learning how to use some new Python modules in my projects, I also learned how to better manage my time to work more efficiently.
What's next for CareerKey
I hope to add more information about options aside from going to university for youth who are not located in Canada, so CareerKey can become more helpful to a wider range of youth.
