๐Ÿ’ก Inspiration I was online looking at project ideas for my next build when I realized the projects that people actually cared about were all about connecting with other human beings. When it came to complex finance apps, or clones of tools like Notion and Trello, people had zero interestโ€”they just didn't have a need for them. I created Advice for When as a space for people to leave messages for others and feel more grounded. I wanted people to experience genuine micro-moments of empathy, completely free from talking to a soulless chatbot. ๐Ÿ‘‹โœจ

๐Ÿ“Œ What it does It is a digital platform where users can choose a specific life scenario (such as moving to a new city or navigating a stressful week), view an encouraging note left by someone else, and leave their own advice. I intentionally designed the UI to resemble a colorful, tangible sticky note board because I am completely over the robotic, soulless AI gradients taking over the web. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ—’๏ธ

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ How I built it I used an AI-powered IDE (Antigravity) to create the initial prototype, and then edited the code to match my own specific vision. The backend runs on Supabase, which stores and manages the user-submitted messages. For the frontend, I used Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and TypeScript to ensure a clean, minimalist UI and seamless deployment onto Vercel. โšก๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿšง Challenges I ran into It is always a challenge to get a frontend layout to look exactly like the design I have inside my head; I spent a lot of time tweaking the CSS so it felt peaceful and human, not mechanical. On the backend, I hit a massive roadblock with Row-Level Security (RLS) policies. My database was initially blocking user submissions, so I had to dive deep into SQL table rules to clean up the permissions and ensure public messages could flow through safely without throwing errors. ๐Ÿ›‘๐Ÿ”ง

๐ŸŽ‰ Accomplishments that I am proud of I am incredibly proud of how the visual aesthetic turned out and that the live functionality works exactly the way I envisioned. Translating a creative concept into a fully operational production build during a tight timeline felt amazing. ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ“š What I learned This project forced me to learn how backend SQL policies directly impact frontend state and connection. Plus, the entire frontend stack was completely new to me! I had never built an application using Next.js or TypeScript before this weekend, so pushing past that steep learning curve and shipping a live app was an awesome milestone. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ“ˆ

๐Ÿ”ฎ What's next for Advice for When Moving forward, I plan to add a wider variety of interactive scenarios, search filtering, and community features. My ultimate goal is to keep expanding this space so that every visitor leaves feeling a little bit more interconnected and less alone in their experiences. ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ
