Navigating through the myriad of travel resources for destination inspiration, itinerary planning, and suitable gear recommendations felt like an overwhelming maze. The vision for JourneyForge crystallized from a desire to streamline this process – to create a tool that would not only generate personalized itineraries based on users' preferred adventure activities but also recommend the ideal gear for each unique experience.

What it does

JourneyForge is an innovative AI-powered vacation planner designed to simplify and enhance the travel experience. By seamlessly integrating advanced language models, users simply input their favorite adventure activity, and JourneyForge goes to work, suggesting personalized destinations, crafting a detailed 5-day itinerary, and recommending essential gears tailored to the chosen adventure. Whether it's hiking, skiing, or beach-combing, JourneyForge ensures that every trip is uniquely tailored to the user's preferences, making vacation planning an enjoyable and stress-free endeavor. This comprehensive tool is not just about travel recommendations; it's about curating a seamless journey from destination selection to packing the perfect gear for an unforgettable adventure.

How I built it

Leveraging the power of Party Rock, I integrated LLMs to comprehend user queries and generate personalized vacation plans. The app's core functionality materialized swiftly, thanks to Party Rock's intuitive interface. However, the real challenge surfaced during the customization of the Gear Recommender widget. The absence of internet access to the Claude model led to the generation of temporary Amazon URLs. The plan for future enhancements is clear - enable internet access to fetch direct shopping links, elevating the user experience to new heights.

Challenges I ran into

The battleground was undoubtedly the development of the Gear Recommender widget. The model's inclination to generate temporary Amazon URLs in offline mode posed a significant hurdle. Creative problem-solving became imperative, leading to a more robust offline functionality. The vision for the future involves connecting to the internet to provide genuine shopping links. Additionally, customizing the Chatbot widget proved to be a puzzle, demanding a deep dive into Party Rock API intricacies and a fair share of trial and error.
