The vehicle ownership is undergoing a paradigm shift with the advent of ride sharing services and autonomous vehicles. We wanted to focus on reasons for people to still own a vehicle in this new paradigm.

What it does

Adventure Mode facilitates the adventure aspect of owning a vehicle. It allows you to get in your vehicle with no destination in mind and tell the vehicle some parameters such as the minimum and maximum distance you're willing to travel and the most money you're willing to spend. Adventure Mode then plans a trip for you including a randomly selected destination and optimal stops for fuel and food.

How we built it

We used the NGI-SDK and various open source projects to build the prototype.

Challenges we ran into

The hardware in-vehicle did not support a newer version of javascript which was supported in the emulator. This proved to be the single most difficult challenge. But, it was tackled successfully.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A working prototype that ran as intended in-vehicle.

What we learned

Check runtime platform requirements more carefully.

What's next for Adventure Mode

Additional features to make it even better.

  • Recalculate fuel stops based on real-time fuel consumption
  • Add a backend service to allow for more social features such as recommended destinations
  • Add destination categories (parks, extreme sports, romantic, ...)
