Inspiration
Linear Algebra and Matrix calculations are core parts of mathematics and engineering, but doing complex matrix operations or solving linear systems by hand can be time-consuming and prone to errors. We wanted to build a sleek, interactive desktop application that makes calculating and analyzing matrices effortless.
What it does
Advanced Matrix Suite & Solver is a feature-rich JavaFX application divided into four specialized tabs:
- Matrix Identifier: Analyzes custom dimensions and properties (e.g., Square, Identity, Diagonal, Symmetric, Scalar matrices).
- Basic Operations: Handles matrix addition, subtraction, and multiplication with dynamic grid generation.
- Advanced Solvers: Solves systems of linear equations ($AX = B$) using both Cramer's Rule and Gauss-Jordan Elimination.
- Single Matrix Tools: Quickly computes Transposes and Determinants ($|A|$) for single matrices.
How we built it
- Language & Framework: Built entirely in Java using JavaFX for the GUI.
- UI Architecture: Designed with FXML and followed the MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture for clean code separation.
- Build & Control: Managed with IntelliJ IDEA and Version Control using Git/GitHub.
Challenges we faced
- Dynamically generating UI input grids depending on user-defined matrix dimensions without breaking the layout.
- Implementing accurate step-by-step algorithms for Gauss-Jordan elimination and Cramer's Rule calculations.
What we learned
- How to manipulate dynamic JavaFX UI nodes programmatically.
- Effective integration of matrix algorithms into responsive GUI controllers.
