Inspiration
Payday lenders charge exorbitant fees to low income individuals, sometimes in excess of 300%. These debtors have already earned income on labor spend, but they have to wait for payday before they can access that money. Sometimes pay periods can be weekly, biweekly, or even monthly. Adv will work with employers to collect timecard data and in real time authorize credit equal to the wages earned. On payday, Advance Micro-lending will collect the advanced money, and directly deposit any remainder to the bank of their choice.
What it does
Employers submit timecard data to our cloud databases, which notifies the employees of available credit. The system also tracks income and expenses incurred using this app.
How I built it
I created a form for the Employer to submit data to the Google Cloud Service.
Challenges I ran into
I am not very good at web programing, and slight dyslexia and sleep deprivation cause me to misspell file names on imports. J Query seems disinterested from importing from my modules, functionality was lost and I couldn't find a substitute by the deadline.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Many lessons from class were reinforced by seeing the almost real world applications of techniques. This was less of a sandbox, and more of a mud pit. I brute forced my way through other problems with trial and error.
What I learned
I learned how to navigate quite a few APIs and the convenience of those services. I need to use more of them.
What's next for Advance Microlending
Improve UI for users, get code working smoothly. Try to get the Employer submissions almost automatic by looking for APIs of their time-card software. Get server-side calculations working and move most data processing away from users for some greater security. Try to implement smartphone payments systems similar to Apple or Android pay. Consult legal and financial experts on providing banking services for low income individuals.
