Inspiration

Working part-time jobs at local cafes and shops, we saw hardworking owners constantly stressed—not from a lack of customers, but from running out of cash unexpectedly. They track money in notebooks, knowing yesterday's balance but blind to next week's bills. As freshman tech students, we built CashFlowPulse to bring big-corporate financial foresight to small local businesses.

What it does

CashFlowPulse is an AI-powered financial early-warning tool for small business owners: 30-Day Forecast: Shows a clear, 30-day visual cash balance projection. Smart Deficit Alerts: Warns owners before cash drops below safe levels (e.g., "Deficit risk in 12 days"). Actionable Solutions: Recommends concrete fixes, like prioritizing invoice follow-ups or deferring vendor payments. What-If Simulator: Tests purchasing decisions before spending (e.g., "Can I afford a new machine today?").

How we built it

Frontend: Interactive dashboard built with React, Tailwind CSS, and Figma. Backend: Python (FastAPI) handling time-series logic for net daily cash: Cash_t = Cash_(t-1) + Inflows_t - Outflows_t Data: Realistic simulated transaction datasets reflecting SME sales cycles and payment delays.

Challenges we ran into

As Year 1 students, learning React state management, REST APIs, and time-series logic all at once was a steep curve. Simplifying complex financial math into a clean, jargon-free interface was our toughest hurdle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Building a working full-stack prototype from scratch, overcoming technical fear as freshmen, and designing a user experience that any non-technical store owner can understand in seconds.

What we learned

We learned that technology is most impactful when driven by empathy, and that being a freshman is no barrier to solving real-world problems with code and teamwork.

What's next for CashFlowPulse

Mobile Alerts: Send instant warning messages via WhatsApp or LINE APIs. Bank Integration: Sync directly with accounting software and open banking APIs. Advanced AI: Upgrade forecasting models as we learn higher-level data science in upcoming courses.
