Inspiration

For many students, particularly juniors and seniors in high school, "adulting" can seem daunting and overwhelming. As a student myself, I know that information on growing up can be not only confusing but hard to find. For this reason, I created 'Adulting's Hard', a website that allows students to easily find information on college, adulting, financial literacy, the basics, such as doing the laundry of changing your tires, and more.

What it does

'Adulting's Hard' is meant to serve as a one-stop resource for information on adulting and college. This allows students to avoid the confusion that normally comes with growing up and/or going to college.

How we built it

I used CSS and HTML to build this website. This was done on an interface named Atom.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge that I ran into was that the text that was hyperlinked to another site (external or otherwise) was not functioning or displaying on the website the way I wanted to. Also, I struggled to create a drop-down function for the menu bar on my website. These are things that I will definitely work on after this hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that I was able to create a website from scratch as this was my first time doing so. I am also proud that I was able to come up with the idea behind 'Adulting's Hard' because it is rooted in a personal struggle that I have faced and because it is something that I am excited to share with others.

What we learned

I learned that it is much more difficult and taxing than I thought it would be to create a website from the bottom up.

What's next for Adulting's Hard

If I had time, I would have loved to add more information, particularly on colleges and financial aid (anything from full-ride scholarships to local, smaller scholarships). This could have looked like a database that would allow students to see what they qualify for and colleges that fit their needs/interests.

In the future, I would hope to compile more relevant information on 'Adulting's Hard'. This would consist of information on adulting (such as housing, careers, etc.), a guide for juniors and seniors going to college, and possibly educational articles written to help students. I was also thinking that I might involve more educational, yet engaging, resources catered to juniors and seniors, such as educational TikToks about college and scholarships.
