Inspiration

This tool was inspired by Dominique's adult ADHD diagnosis journey. from last year. She noticed that the ADHD diagnosis process is not ADHD friendly. It is often drawn out and it is hard to initiate a conversation with your doctor.

Many people are even afraid to start the conversation because they do not want to seem like they are drug-seeking or making excuses for their behavior.

We decided to create a tool that makes it easier to bring up these concerns with a doctor.

The screener can be performed any time, anywhere and is available on computers and tablets. Designed to be user-friendly and accessible to individuals with disabilities, the ADHD screener provides an objective assessment in identifying ADHD

What it does

In less than 4 minutes, the 80HD Adult ADHD Screener helps you see if you are an adult who may have ADHD. The screener consists of 18 simple questions that are commonly associated with ADHD and you can answer yourself to begin the process of gathering information about ADHD, can be used anonymously, and with no registration necessary.

This screening test is a symptoms checklist for adult ADHD and not a diagnostic test. The questions in the screener are based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders symptom criteria for ADHD. Once you complete the questions, the screener will display your results that can be printed and shared with your health provider.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build this Azure-hosted web application

Challenges we ran into

Hosted application as an Azure Web Application

Have never hosted an application on Azure before Had to use GitHub and neither one of us have ever used GitHub before this Hackathon

Made Results Downloadable

Had to implement a JQeury script (which we had never used before) that can convert a section of HTML into pdf so that it can be saved for later

Displaying Final Results We had never used arrays in JavaScript before and had to learn how to manipulate multiple to properly display results

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Accessibility

Implemented screen reader, keyboard accessibility, and ADHD brain-friendly fonts and colors We tested the application using screen readers on desktop and mobile to confirm it was accessible Also used application using only a keyboard to make sure it was keyboard accessible

Heavy Use of JavaScript

Have only been using JavaScript for almost two weeks at the time of this hackathon and have only been learning HTML and CSS for the past month

What we learned

How to use GitHub How to use arrays in Javascript How to host applications in Azure How to make a web application accessible How to make a web application responsive

What's next for "80HD" Adult ADHD Screener

Implementing as a part of a larger platform with forums, practical tips, and success stories, to support adults with ADHD
