Inspiration
1:00 Many sustainability projects usually are about how to recycle and compost items or about calculating carbon footprints. In my research, I didn't see many projects about how we can be sustainable with the technology and electronics we use on a daily basis. I wanted a resource that could educate individuals on ways to be a more mindful tech consumer.
What it does
0:16-0:30 Adopt Green Tech is a resource for individuals interested in building habits that lead to a sustainable consumption and use of technology and electronics. The website contains pages about how to reduce, reuse, and recycle electronics.
How we built it
0:15 Adopt Green Tech is built using React and CSS. Some of the header images were made using Photoshop.
Challenges we ran into
2:24 Setting up the custom domain with GitHub Pages had more problems than I envisioned. However, it was resolved after reading different blogs on how to deploy a React project using GitHub Pages and a custom domain.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is my first time building a website using React, and I'm glad I was able to write a complete website.
What we learned
2:24 I learned a lot about web development, specifically React, and I also learned more about the different ways I can be a more sustainable consumer of technology. I wasn't aware of some of the programs that I found while doing my research for the project.
What's next for Adopt Green Tech
1:52 I would love to embed Google Maps for finding local recycling centers and also utilize a database of more recycling and donation services available on the Recycle page.
