Inspiration
As students who have been through the GCSE exam stress in the UK (where our final grade is determined by between two-four exams, taken at the end of a two-year course), we have personal experience on how stressful it is to balance our school and social life with revising for exams.
What it does
Our program is an adpative revision timetabling software, which uses AI to help students plan out their revision schedules, ensuring that all students revise little and often, which is the most effective from of revision. Our AI also ensures that students target their weakest topics more often than stronger topics, certifies that students are confident on all topics for each paper they need to take.
How we built it
We decomposed the problem into smaller chunks that were more manageable - Jack and Kavin worked on the backend (ensuring that the AI, PMT and the database could all comminuate efficienctly with the main program), Rishi worked on the front-end (the GUI) and conencting it to the backend, Dawood made the login system, as well as part of the databse that stores logins and user information, and Roger helped Rishi with the front-end code as well as the documentation.
Challenges we ran into
We found it diffiult to allocate different parts of the project to each of us, as we tried to allocate based on our current skill level - we all eventually had to learn lots of new concepts and features for this project, so allocating by skill probably wasn't the best idea at the start We also found it difficult to manage our timings, as we had to conflict with our personal schedules.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that, despite our busy personal lives, that we managed to built a prototype that involved all of our skills in time. We are also proud that we worked well as a team, and learned lots of new techniques and skills along the way
What we learned
We all learned different, new skills and features that we could use to comminuate to each other and between different progarmming langauges. We also all found it fascinating how different programming languages could work together to produce a prototype that we were all proud of.
What's next for adaptive revision planner
We plan to expand the question scraper to scrape for other exam boards (e.g OCR, Edexcel) rather than just AQA. In addition, learning the content of the course is only one step to being able to achieve high marks on exams - the way students phrase their answers to the examiner also has a big impact on the grade, and is what commonly seperates the higher achieveing students from the lower achieveing students. With this, we also plan to adapt the AI to help students with their exam technique, ensuring that students get the marks they deserve by using correct exam techinque
