Painting is a common leisure activity that allows people to express themselves, relax, and participate in art classes or community activities. However, a standard paintbrush requires the user to pinch and grip a thin handle while also controlling small wrist and finger movements. This can create a barrier for people with limited grip strength, reduced finger dexterity, hand tremors, joint pain, paralysis, or other motor disabilities. People who may experience this barrier include individuals with arthritis, cerebral palsy, stroke-related weakness, or hand injuries. Arthritis alone can cause severe joint pain and difficulty with daily tasks that require gripping. Our product, the Adaptive Paintbrush Holder, is designed to reduce the need to tightly grasp a paintbrush. Instead of relying mainly on finger strength, the brush is secured to the hand with a supportive strap and holder. This allows the user to paint by moving their arm, wrist, or hand in the way that is most comfortable and accessible for them.
