Inspiration
The inspiration for Acumen came from the need to balance productivity and well-being. We noticed that existing tools often focused solely on task completion, ignoring the importance of effort and enjoyment. Our goal was to create a smarter, more balanced approach to task management, catering to diverse audiences such as students, professionals, and entrepreneurs
What it does
Acumen is a daily planner that analyzes the level of effort and enjoyment of all the tasks on your schedule and uses a mathematical algorithm to compute the ideal amount of time that should be allocated to each task to ensure that you will be the most productive.
How I built it
Acumen was built using Next.js for the web application and Django for the backend. We have developed a proprietary productivity function, that takes into account the effort and enjoyment of each task. We then use Calculus to maximize that function and build the schedule.
Challenges I ran into
One of the main challenges was creating a scheduling algorithm that’s easy to use while still being effective. We also had to figure out how to make the app work smoothly across different platforms and keep it fast. On top of that, we learned a lot about listening to user feedback and finding practical ways to improve the app.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Launching Acumen without heavy marketing and still gaining traction is a significant milestone, reflecting the app's impact.
What I learned
Building the app for different platforms showed me how important it is to make things work smoothly everywhere. Listening to user feedback also helped me see how small changes can make a big difference. Overall, it’s been a great experience in problem-solving and improving based on what users really want.
What's next for Acumen
The next steps for Acumen include launching a fully native mobile app for improved performance and user experience. We plan to enhance AI features, introduce collaborative tools for teams, and expand our outreach to include partnerships with educational institutions and workplaces. Additionally, we'll continue refining the app based on user feedback to ensure it evolves with their needs.
