Inspiration
What inspired us was the connections created by outdoor activities, and we wanted a way to easily find people in your neighborhood doing the same activities. In a world in which people struggle with loneliness, we felt that this was a great way to combat that.
What it does
In this website we can create an account and share your name, skill level, preferred times, activities that user likes, and even your location as well. We can find people with the same interest in activities and people who prefer doing activities at certain times and request to meet up with them at a certain day, time, and place.
How we built it
We built our project using Visual Studio Code and languages HTML, CSS, Javascript. We also utilized react and node.js in our code.
Challenges we ran into
Bringing a local folder to a remote github repo and then cloning from that remote repo to another local folder. Getting the music to autoplay was also a challenge. Learning the different syntax of html, css, and java was also very confusing since some of us have not had lots of in-depth experience with those languages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of learning new tools that we weren’t familiar with. We were also proud of collaborating to make a project idea that solves an issue people face. We’re also proud of making an app that we feel very passionate about and helping solve the human interaction crisis.
What we learned
We learned how to use github to share and work on our code as a team. We also learned Git to keep track of our code and make changes. We also learned how to copy contents from one branch to another branch. We also learned a few new languages (very surface level, but enough to get the job done).
What's next for Activity Buddy
Setting up a backend to handle users with login and ID verification. Add an inbox for receiving messages and add a script to add functionality to the view button. Creating real users instead of using a static user base. Making music autoplay. Implementing the view feature so that you can see a full profile of the other user when view is clicked.
