💡 ActiFoot: Smart AI for a Healthier, Greener Home

🚀 Inspiration

Think of your home like a living system. Every day, appliances work silently in the background—keeping your life running smoothly. But small inefficiencies or faults often go unnoticed until it's too late. A spike in power usage, an inefficient motor, or a lurking short circuit can waste energy and money—or even cause damage.

This inspired us to build ActiFoot: an AI-powered health monitor for your home that detects problems early, saves energy, and protects your appliances—without installing any new hardware.

🧠 What We Learned

  • How everyday appliances can silently increase energy consumption over time
  • The potential of AI to analyze energy usage patterns and detect anomalies
  • Real-world constraints of working without additional hardware sensors
  • Designing intuitive user alerts and actionable recommendations

🛠️ How We Built It

  • We used existing energy consumption data from appliances (simulated or from smart meters).
  • Trained a machine learning model to understand normal vs abnormal behavior for each device.
  • Developed a web-based dashboard that shows energy usage trends, flags issues, and gives tailored suggestions.
  • Added features like short-circuit alerts and safe shutdown triggers using rule-based logic.

🔍 Example Use Case

If the system sees your washing machine suddenly using extra power during Cycle 3, it flags it:

“Energy spike detected—motor maintenance suggested.”

This kind of early insight helps users act before energy waste or damage occurs.

⚙️ Challenges Faced

  • Working with limited/simulated real-time energy datasets
  • Ensuring meaningful insights without overwhelming the user
  • Modeling the "normal rhythm" of a household with varied usage patterns
  • Avoiding false positives while maintaining early alert capability

🌱 Outcome

With ActiFoot, users save on electricity bills, avoid costly repairs, and reduce their carbon footprint—all with no extra devices, no setup hassle, and a smarter, safer home.

This is the future of home care: simple, smart, and sustainable.
