Inspiration.
As an exercise and health researcher I know first-hand the importance of being active for our health. Unfortunately Worldwide, 1 in 4 adults do not engage in enough physical activity. My previous experience as an exercise instructor made me discover that one of the reasons why many people, even if they have the initiative or want to exercise, do not do it because they need someone to pressure them or accompany them. Some are embarrassed or insecure to exercise on their own, others just need a little push to get engaged, and others just find the motivation to exercise in being able to socialize.
To overcome this barrier I came up with the idea of a smartphone app that will allow people to find buddies within their community or neighborhood to exercise with.
What it does
Users can post events in which they can specify the activity they will be doing, day and time, location, level, and the number of people they will want to "invite". Each person will have a profile with basic information (age, interests, physical activity levels, and approximate location) and will be able to search exercise/sports events using different filters (type of exercise, level, distance from user...). Once the user books into an event he would be able to communicate through an event chat with the other users attending that event so questions about the location, clothing requirements, weather changes, and other inquiries can be discussed. Examples of events can be Running in a park, Hiking a peak, Skating, cycling routes, swimming on the sea, gym session in the community gym, yoga session on the park, volleyball on the beach, tennis on the park courts among many more. Users will be able to rate other users in terms of puntuality, reliability, and activity engagement.
What's next for Actibudy
From the prototype will be good to develop a prototype working website that allows achieving people's engagement and sponsors with the ultimate goal of developing the final working app.
