Inspiration
COVID-19 has prevented even the simplest of social interaction. With the lack of facial expression and distance, it's hard to easily gain contact information or exchange messages with those you aren't close due to not being able to simply physically enter your phone number or the anxiety to not even try. Because of that, we created Acquaint, a means in which for people to come in to contact with without the hassle of contact information while also having the longevity to last after.
What it does
This is a Bluetooth Messaging app; the app finds a Bluetooth device to connect to, and once it does the user can chat with the device that's connected to.
How we built it
We built the app using Android Studio
Challenges we ran into
-multiple restarts; the fact that we had to go back to the drawing board twice (our first idea being a gif keyboard app and the second being the social app) took up a lot of time. -inexperience with Android Studio. Our developers had no experience with Android Studio, so they also had to spend a large chunk of time learning the software and writing code using that software.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Our developer Minh managed to learn how to show and scan for Bluetooth connections between devices, as well as learn the basics of Android Studio back-end development. -Our developer Ben managed to learn basic front-end development in Android Studio, as well as learning a lot of Java along the way since he is inexperienced.
What we learned
We learned how to make an application through Android Studio, as well as many concepts about Java and programming, and the essence of having fun in the hackathon.
What's next for Acquaint
-Implementing a security feature where the user can accept or reject Bluetooth pairing requests -Being able to send messages between one device to another
