Inspiration
Our journey began with a simple realization: countless individuals (including us) struggle with acne, not just physically but also emotionally. It affects self-esteem and leaves many feeling helpless after trying multiple treatments without success. This inspired us to create "Acne Be Gone!", a platform that empowers people to understand their skin better and find effective solutions.
What it does
"DermaCare: Acne Be Gone!" is a transformative web service that uses artificial intelligence to diagnose acne types from user-uploaded photos. It goes a step further by recommending tailored treatments based on the identified acne condition. This personalized approach simplifies the path to clear skin. It is deployed as well, so users can use it right now!
How we built it
We leveraged machine learning algorithms and a vast dataset of dermatological images to train our AI model. The platform is built on a robust web framework, ensuring a user-friendly experience. Each component, from the AI backend to the front-end interface, was crafted with the user's journey in mind.
Challenges we ran into
One of the major challenges was ensuring the accuracy of the AI diagnoses, which required meticulous data curation and model training. Balancing user privacy with data needs was also a tightrope walk, solved by implementing strict data handling protocols.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're immensely proud of the AI's high accuracy rate in diagnosing various acne types, which rivals professional assessments. Also, the positive user feedback on the platform's ease of use has been incredibly fulfilling.
What we learned
This project was a deep dive into the complexities of skin health and the intricacies of machine learning. We learned that interdisciplinary collaboration—between tech experts and medical professionals—is key to creating a health-tech tool that truly serves its users.
What's next for DermaCare: Acne Be Gone!
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our database to include more skin types and conditions. We're exploring partnerships with dermatologists for validation and looking into integrating telehealth services for users to connect with professionals directly through our platform. "Acne Be Gone!" is on a mission to not just be an app but a holistic skin health companion.
