Inspiration

We were inspired when we realised that there wasn't an easy way to commend a team member for their hard work and effort during a task.

What it does

On a Jira issue, users have the ability to commend a users work by pressing the Commend button. Users can view a Leaderboard of team members to see who has the most commends from their team. On their profile users can also see who they have recently commended and who has commended them.

How we built it

We build it using the Atlassian Connect Express framework, alongside a GraphQL API and Sequelize Database. For the Front End we used React.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with initially setting up the app, and working out how to host it correctly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our functional app which allows teams to begin praising their staff members through Jira. We think that this app can be used to produce a friendly and competitive edge in a company. (Prizes for staff with most commends etc.)

What we learned

We learned how to develop apps from the ground up, and we each got to try out developing both front-end and back-end code.

What's next for Commendations

We would like to integrate Commendations with AWS SES to send emails to users when they've been commended. We also want to introduce more achievements into the app, which can be created by Admins.
