Inspiration

While initially looking over a Drug Events dataset from 2022 (consisting of 11,999 patients), we noticed that Acetaminophen was involved in many cases of adverse events. We decided to investigate the correlation between Acetaminophen and different factors, including age, sex, and co-ingestion with other drugs.

This is significant because Acetaminophen is the "most common drug ingredient in the United States", and the side effects or misuse of Acetaminophen may often be overlooked due to its prevalence.

What we learned

Despite being one of the most widely recommended drug by doctors, Acetaminophen has shown some correlation with mortality rate when applied to certain sexes and co-ingestion with opioid-containing drugs. Further research on signs, symptoms related to Acetaminophen toxicity is highly encouraged to improve patient safety.

What's next for Acetaminophen Mortality Prediction

  1. Explore the relationship between race and the severity of Acetaminophen-induced adverse events.
  2. Exploring other regression models such as LASSO regressions and further exploration between the correlation of each variable.
  3. Exploring classification predictive modeling to predict the category of reaction instead of seriousness values.
  4. Explore relationship between the dosage of Acetaminophen with adverse events
