Inspiration

Due to the impact of COVID-19, virtual learning has become essential to higher-level education. Universities around the world have adopted new ways of providing coursework and lessons to maintain social distancing. While technology has adapted to help make distance learning possible, current platforms have failed to make virtual learning effective. In order to improve the quality of virtual learning, our team decided to redesign the UI/UX of Zoom to make it more education-friendly.

What it does

ACE IT provides two-factor authentication for students and educators by directly connecting to their university accounts. Students and educators can improve their time-management and efficiency by scheduling class meetings, events, and office hour appointments all in one place. ACE IT focuses on improving online interactions with features like chat rooms, interactive whiteboards, screen-sharing, and code-sharing to engage students within the virtual classroom. The design of ACE IT enables students to check educator availability and schedule 1-on-1 appointments when they require extra help.

How we built it

Our team built ACE IT on the Marvel prototyping platform. We used the various tools within the platform to create a prototype of how a student might experience ACE IT to attend university classes and schedule an office hours appointment with their professor.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges our team encountered included conducting sufficient research under the time constraint and deciding on new features to improve our design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we accomplished our goal of creating a successful prototype for ACE IT. During the hackathon, we worked as a team to learn and grow together. Each member contributed ideas and collaboratively worked on the project.

What we learned

Through the experience of prototyping ACE IT, we gained experience working on hackathon projects and collaboratively creating a UI/UX design using Marvel.

What's next for ACE IT

In the future, some plans we have for ACE IT are:

  1. Improving the materials section to enable educators to upload assignments, course materials, and recorded videos or lectures for students.
  2. Conducting significantly more customer testing to let potential users demo our prototype. We will utilize the input to improve and finalize our product.
  3. Build and develop ACE IT to ultimately partner with universities.
  4. Add features geared toward middle and elementary schools that can be developed after we expand and hire web developers and data analysts.
  5. Collect user data and update the interface constantly to improve user experience.
