Planning for university is fragmented.

A student may need one website for admissions requirements, another for scholarships, another for standardized testing, another for application advice, and sometimes an expensive counselor just to understand what they should actually be doing next. For international students, the problem becomes even harder because every country and education system works differently.

ACE AI was built around a simple question: what if every student could have one personalized mentor that tells them exactly what to do to reach their dream university?

What it does

ACE AI is an AI-powered university and career admissions mentor designed to turn a student's goals into an actionable, personalized roadmap.

Students provide information such as their academic profile, country, intended field of study, career goals, target universities, budget, and other relevant circumstances. ACE AI then uses Gemini to reason across that information and provide personalized guidance.

Instead of simply recommending universities, ACE AI helps students understand what to do next.

Depending on the student, this can include:

  • personalized university and admissions roadmaps
  • course and academic planning
  • extracurricular and activity strategy
  • standardized testing guidance
  • scholarship discovery
  • application and essay support
  • international study pathways
  • career-oriented planning
  • organization and prioritization of activities, honors, awards, essays, and application materials

ACE AI is designed across borders. A student in Italy considering the United States faces a different process from an American student considering Europe, and the platform adapts its guidance to the student's starting point and destination.

For time-sensitive information such as scholarships, deadlines, opportunities, and university requirements, ACE AI can ground Gemini responses with Google Search and provide current sources.

How we built it

ACE AI was built as an AI-native product with Gemini at the center of the experience rather than added as a standalone chatbot.

The system combines a structured student profile with Gemini reasoning to generate individualized recommendations and roadmaps. Different inputs can therefore produce fundamentally different strategies rather than the same generic checklist for every student.

For information that changes over time, Google Search grounding complements Gemini's reasoning with current web information and sources.

The product also includes authentication, student profiles, application-planning tools, analytics, AI usage tracking, and a subscription infrastructure supporting a free experience and an optional Premium plan.

The result is a working web application where the core workflow is:

Student profile → Gemini reasoning → personalized strategy → actionable next steps.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was balancing personalization with reliability.

University admissions is highly contextual: recommendations that make sense for one country, university, academic system, budget, or career may be completely inappropriate for another.

Another challenge was freshness. Scholarship deadlines, university requirements, and opportunities can change, so relying exclusively on static model knowledge would not be sufficient. Google Search grounding was therefore incorporated for time-sensitive information.

We also had to design the product so that AI guidance remains guidance rather than pretending that admissions outcomes can be guaranteed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

ACE AI has evolved from an idea into a functioning product that students can actually use.

We are particularly proud of building a system where Gemini's role goes beyond answering questions: it interprets a student's circumstances and helps transform a long-term ambition into concrete next steps.

We also developed a model that can serve students across different countries and education systems rather than designing exclusively around one admissions pathway.

The platform combines personalized AI reasoning, current information, application organization, scholarship support, and long-term planning in one place.

Most importantly, ACE AI is being built around a real problem experienced by students: access to good educational guidance should not depend on knowing the right person, understanding an unfamiliar admissions system, or being able to afford private counseling.

What we learned

Building ACE AI taught us that the hardest part of educational guidance is not access to information — it is turning enormous amounts of information into the right next action for one specific student.

We also learned that personalization requires context. Country, academic system, financial circumstances, career ambitions, and target institutions all change what good advice looks like.

That insight shaped ACE AI into a mentor and planning system rather than simply another AI search or chat interface.

What's next for ACE AI

The next stage is expanding the depth of ACE AI's personalized planning while continuing to improve grounded, current recommendations.

We plan to expand scholarship and opportunity discovery, application organization, international admissions coverage, and tools that help students understand the strength and gaps of their profiles.

Our long-term goal is to build an AI education mentor that can follow a student throughout their journey — from deciding what they want to study, to building the right profile, applying to universities and scholarships, and ultimately reaching their academic and career goals.
