Inspiration
My company has been thinking about positive incentive design and issues pertaining to social goods for the last three years. This hackathon and the global challenge that we are facing are both a natural fit for us to apply our thoughts. We found a coder and UX designer and got started only a couple of hours before the deadline!
To combat COVID-19, we believe that incentivizing people to stay within their cities/towns can help limit the long-term rate of infection. We also recognize that this will have a disastrous impact on many local economies, especially brick-and-mortar stores. We wanted to figure out a way to both reward people for staying within their home areas while also ensuring that when restrictions are lifted, local economies can thrive. This is especially important for cities that are dependent on tourism.
What it does
Our solution is an application that rewards people for staying within their geolocation. These rewards are in the form of local discounts, which will be rolled out over time in accordance with local regulations in order to promote the economies of local communities. The longer that people stay within their city confines, the more rewards they earn.
