Inspiration
It is always hard to build good habits, sometimes even with the best effort. We, ourselves, have struggled with this and thought about what it would be like to have a person to hold you accountable to keep up with your goals. I'm sure everyone knows that having a gym buddy is extremely beneficial, so why not an Accountabilliebuddy to help you achieve your most ambitious goals by keeping you accountable?
What it does
Accountabilliebuddies allow’s a user to go on, set a goal, find a partner to hold them accountable, share progress, and develop good habits. AKA Customize, Connect, Share, Receive, and Success. By developing good habits you will receive respective badges to display on your profile, along with coins that can be used to redeem prizes that are funded by your university.
How we built it
We built Accountabilliebuddies from the ground up. It uses a Lamp stack, hosted on Google Cloud. We used HTML, CSS, Javascript, Bootstrap, and other resources to Develop the front-end. PHP, and JavaScript was used for back-end development. PHPmyadmin is the GUI for our database.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a variety of challenges from server issues to simple syntax errors that had caused us to search for significant time. Being that we all are first time hackers, it most definitely was a learning curve to learn languages and concepts we previously have not seen before. We also ran into time constraints that prevented us from implementing all the features we initially had planned.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a UI that is aesthetic and responsive to changes in size using bootstrap in which none of us are familiar with. We are also proud of how much we have accomplished given the time constraints. Being first time hackers, we are definitely proud to be ambitious and do so much.
What we learned
We have learned a lot of what is involved with webapp development. We have learned that immense planning happens before you even begin to code and that writing things from scratch takes a lot of time, and therefore you should use libraries and code snippets to help save you the trouble.
What's next for Accountabilliebuddies
Future implementations that can be added to Accountabilliebuddies consist of concepts such as password reset, edit profile options, a badge reward system, and a friends page. Other features that would be nice to have would be dark mode, the ability to like and comment posts on the feed, as well as a profile hover modal. These modifications would be extremely beneficial to add to this application, however more time is needed to ensure execution for these devices would be carried out properly.
