Inspiration:
Human beings are social beings. Disabled people are no different. They need to be able to get out there and enjoy the life they deserve to have. They deserve to be able to make plans whenever they want without fearing to turn back at the sight of the stairs leading to the door of the restaurant. Thus, we decided it was high time we created an app that would make their life easier.
Description:
Accesso is a mobile and web mapping app where disabled people can upload their favorite spots and addresses. They will also be able to search for a new address someone else recommended which is adapted to their condition. By adaptation, we mean not only direct access but other important factors such as automatic doors, restrooms, parking lots, service quality, adapted equipment ...etc
Goal:
- Allow disabled people to make reliable adequate plans.
- Help them embrace the social life they truly deserve.
- Makes their everyday life easier.
Main features:
- Possibility to upload a place a user has visited and found adapted to his health with a possibility to specify in what way it was practical and in which way it wasn't.
- Possibility to search for a place to visit, a restaurant or any activity he wants to engage in.
- Possibility to give a review or comment about a new or pre existant place.
Challenges we faced:
Since the beginning, we made up our mind about which technology to use. However, some members had never worked with node before. It was challenging but interesting for them to work with it for the first time ever.
What we learned:
Being a team of computer science students, most of us have a bad habit of being comfortable around our laptops but not facing audiences. This experience helped us discover the diverse and many ways to introduce our projet to the world in a good way thanks to the tips the coaches gave us.
Perspectives:
We aim to create a large community of people who are often neglected and unheard. We hope one day our app becomes a place for them where they can plan group meetings and have much more chances at a more inclusive social life.
