Inspiration

Our team took inspiration from a real-life scenario: an event attendee in a wheelchair navigating a new area for the first time. We realized how difficult it is to find reliable, accessible travel information—from accommodation and transit to venue navigation. We wanted to build something that turns uncertainty into confidence for people with mobility needs.

What it does

AccessMate is a smart assistant that helps users who use require accessibility information to plan and navigate their event experiences with ease. It provides accessible accommodation suggestions and mobility-friendly navigation —ensuring attendees can focus on the event, not the stress.

How we built it

We worked within the Databricks environment to build out tools which we then leveraged within an App.

Challenges we ran into

  • As a Team understanding exactly the problem that they we were solving.
  • We struggled in understanding what tools Databricks has to leverage.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Getting an application up and working.

What we learned

  • There is more available in Databricks than any of us realised.

What's next for AccessMate

We are looking to embed Google Map routing into the Application so that users can map their wheelchair accessible routes to and from their event.
