Inspiration Navigating healthcare is already challenging, but for individuals with specialized physical, sensory, or mobility needs, finding a facility that actually accommodates them is a constant hurdle. Patients frequently arrive at appointments only to encounter unexpected physical barriers, broken elevator access, or a lack of specialized equipment. We created AccessReady to remove this dangerous guessing game from medical navigation, giving patients full transparency so they can seek care with confidence and peace of mind.

What it does AccessReady is a specialized healthcare accessibility matching web app that instantly connects individuals with medical facilities equipped for their precise accommodation needs. Using a custom compatibility algorithm, the app scores and matches facilities based on physical mobility support, sensory accommodations, and specialized medical equipment. Features include verified facility breakdowns, barrier indicators, interactive search filtering, and clean routing—all presented through a responsive UI.

How we built it The frontend was engineered with Next.js 16 (using Turbopack) and Tailwind CSS, styled in a dark-mode Halloween visual palette (Midnight Charcoal background, Electric Pumpkin Orange, Toxic Purple, and Eerie Slime Green). We designed a "liquid glass" glassmorphism aesthetic using frosted semi-transparent cards (backdrop-blur-md), smooth scroll behavior, and fluid micro-animations. On the backend, we structured matching workflows to evaluate user accessibility preferences against facility data models in real time.

Challenges we ran into Early in the hackathon, we hit significant hurdles with styling setups, broken asset paths, uncompiled layout directives, and severe Git merge conflicts across entire files in README.md. We solved this by pivoting to a fresh repository, establishing parallel feature branches (claude-frontend-ui for frontend layout work and codex-backend for backend logic), and systematically re-linking our global CSS imports to ensure clean, error-free builds.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud to have delivered a fully responsive, visually distinct "liquid glass" dark mode UI without sacrificing web accessibility or readability. Overcoming team repo conflicts to establish a smooth multi-branch workflow—and taking the application from an unstyled prototype to a polished, fully functioning full-stack demo—was a major milestone for our team.

What we learned Working on AccessReady reinforced the power of disciplined Git branch management, clean project folder structuring, and fast prototyping with modern frontend tooling. We deepened our practical knowledge of Next.js Turbopack workflows, advanced Tailwind CSS styling techniques, and accessibility-first UI design patterns.

What's next for AccessCare Looking ahead, we aim to expand our database through direct healthcare provider API integrations and community-driven accessibility reviews. Future planned features include real-time facility status updates (e.g., live elevator outage alerts), multi-language voice navigation, and direct appointment booking integrations to establish AccessReady as a comprehensive standard for barrier-free healthcare access.
