Inspiration
The inspiration came from the grandfather of one of our members who often needs to use a wheelchair to go places such as parks and recreational areas. The family often would not know wether or not the places they were going to were wheelchair accessible, and if they were not, it would be difficult to get their grandfather to come with them and therefore hinder them from spending time with him.
What it does
It allows NJ residents to look for places in their area that have wheelchair accessibility and allows others to submit their suggestions for places that can be added to the site.
How we built it
We built it by creating multiple Replits that had different aspects of the website and then importing it into a singular one. We then worked out bugs in both the HTML and CSS parts of our project.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into issues with HTML as we had been placing code in the wrong order and it caused our website to be unable to load. We also had issues with changing the header of our website as we were unable to locate the code we had imported in, but we learned about the "inspect" feature which allowed us to concur that challenge. The majority of issues we had were with website loading but as we learned more throughout the Hackathon, the issues became easier to fix.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a website in this time, seeing as our team had very limited knowledge with HTML and CSS and had to ask many questions and do research before being able to truly create the website we are presenting. We are also proud that, as this is our 1st hackathon, that we were able to create a website with functionality and also learn 3 coding languages in a single day.
What we learned
As previously mentioned, our group learned HTML, CSS and Javascript throughout the Hackathon. We also learned for future preference that we should keep better track of our code (or use Inspector)
What's next for Access Near Me
Access Near Me would like to expand the functionality of it's website as members learn more about programming, as well be be able to allow users to use a search feature to find accessible areas instead of a gallery. It would also be interesting if members could learn to implement AI that could decide what submissions could be added to the website, and then add them, with needing to manually look through the applications and then add them in.
