Inspiration
As a content creator myself, I saw countless emerging creators stuck in the early stages—full of ambition but lacking tailored guidance. I’d watched peers waste time on generic advice instead of targeted strategies, and senior creators struggle to monetize their expertise in a structured way. That gap sparked CreatorMentor Match: a platform to turn scattered advice into scalable, personalized mentorship.
What it does
CreatorMentor Match connects new content creators with experienced mentors across niches like tech, fitness, and podcasting. It offers 12/24-week structured programs ($200–$500/month), 1:1 session scheduling, weekly skill modules (content planning, monetization), and progress tracking to hit milestones like 1k followers or first brand deals.
How we built it
We started with mapping core user journeys—from mentor discovery to milestone approval. Using React for the frontend, we built a responsive UI with Figma-designed minimalist components, integrated Google Calendar API for scheduling, and Firebase for mock data storage. The matching algorithm was coded in Node.js to align mentors with creator goals/niches, and we layered in progress tracking with custom CSS progress bars.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was balancing flexibility (mentor-customized tasks) with structure (standard program frameworks). We also struggled with time zone logic for global scheduling—ensuring slots adjusted accurately for users across Europe and the US. Early on, filter logic returned inconsistent results, so we rebuilt the query system to prioritize niche and goal alignment first.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a seamless matching flow that surfaces 3–5 relevant mentors instantly, a functional booking system with conflict prevention, and a milestone approval workflow that keeps both mentors and mentees accountable. The UI adheres to a cohesive color palette and minimalist design, making it intuitive for creators of all tech skill levels.
What we learned
We learned to prioritize user-centric design over feature bloat—cutting "nice-to-have" tools (like advanced analytics) to focus on core needs. We also gained insight into pricing psychology for creator services, and how to build algorithms that feel personal, not generic. Most importantly, we saw how critical time zone and calendar integration is for global user bases.
What's next for this project
First, we’ll add real-time messaging between mentors and mentees to streamline feedback. We plan to integrate a review system for mentors, expand niche categories (like AI content creation), and build a mobile-responsive version. Long-term, we’ll explore adding mentor verification and a simplified payment system to scale beyond demo checkout flows.
