Inspiration

Inspired by John's idea to motivate students by utilizing their desire for winning. Was adapted into a leaderboard system to incentivize group based study and communal goals.

What it does

*Limited functionality as of submission. Displays a leaderboard of students and their score based on the time they've devoted to work. As a student works more, their rank increases past their friends'. Also provides a work timer for students to hold themselves accountable and accurately measure time spent.

How we built it

A hosting platform called Glitch offers easy front and backend development using html, css, and javascript. We used this, as well as a Github repository to collaboratively work on the code.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a timer with a functional start, stop, and submit button. Pushing and pulling Github changes, as well as merging them, from the repository was also a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The background gradient offers a clean and calm environment for a student to work with. There are no distractions on the screen, contributing to the goals of the app. Button styling and formatting were also proud accomplishments on the design front. The timer, also a large challenge, was very rewarding to complete due to the multifaceted code needed to create form and function.

What we learned

Learned about git, Github, and front-end web development design as well as back-end implementation of functions in javascript.

What's next for Academic Leaderboard

Develop functionality of leaderboard and add functional reward system (besides bragging rights).
