Inspiration

I know many students do not know where to gain valuable resources for their institution. I wanted to create a platform demo that could partner with third parties (licensing), job opportunities, certifications, and additional career opportunities to gain experience in a specific field. I wanted something that would be beneficial for all parties; students and employers. One feature is gaining teaching experience by working online as a teaching assistant or student teacher. This feature shows the student's ability to teach, what courses they've taught, their mentor (who is monitoring the student's performance), and more.

What it does

The platform shows current resources available based on the institution available. Let's say New York University is a third party, their license would be entered into Academic Endeavor (AE) and students could log in with their MFA/ student credentials. From there we would have NYU's database (scalability), policies for FERPA, and general policy for the state this information may be in (such as GDPR, CCPA, and other data protection regulations). This platform would allow students to work on IRBs/ research, teach classes (MOOCs), and obtain real-world experience in an academic setting. Thus making internships, jobs, and fellowships outside of this program easier to apply to.

How we built it

I used Canva, mockaroo, Figma, draw.io, and MySQL.

Challenges I ran into

I wanted to make a demo/ mock-up not necessarily an app since I started relatively late and didn't necessarily have more time to make a demo application/ website. I struggled with uploading my code to GitHub.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Completing this hackathon. This is only my second time using Figma.

What I learned

I learned about Swift and other applications I can use in the future.

What's next for Academic Endeavor

If this project could expand I would make it into a real working site. Then I would begin pitching it to academic institutions, sponsors, and businesses that I think would be interested in tailoring their training, tailoring the employee pool, and supporting students in the workforce. I would also see if it is possible to manage and partner with organizations like LinkedIn Learning; finding additional sources to better complete my third-party needs, such as database scalability.
