Academic Ally

Inspiration

After listening to the opening announcement, we were thinking of ways you can bring education to people in areas with no internet or cell connection, and came up with the idea for Academic Ally!

What it does

Academic Ally is a personal and free tutor that can work without any connection to the outside world. It can all be set up by clicking running one file and will let anyone have a personalized learning experience no matter where they live.

How we built it

We build Academic Ally using next.js and Python for the neural network. We have our own local neural network to achieve the possibility of not having to pay and not needing any connection.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was the time! We wanted to add many more features but could fit it into the timeframe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were very proud that we were able to have a local AI with all its training data work both very fast on slow hardware and only take up 4 GB.

What we learned

We learned how to host AI models locally and how to have a full website that works without internet connection.

What's next for Academic Ally

Eventually, we aim to be able to add more subjects, support more languages, and add accessibility features.
