Inspiration

The idea for ACADEMe was inspired by the challenges students face in accessing quality education across languages and regions. Many learners struggle to find mentors, peers, and resources that align with their learning goals, especially when language barriers or lack of proper platforms stand in the way.

We wanted to build a system that connects learners and educators globally while supporting multiple languages and enabling real-time collaboration. ACADEMe was born from the belief that education should be inclusive, collaborative, and personalized for every learner, regardless of geography or background.

What it does

ACADEMe is a multilingual academic ecosystem that connects students, mentors, and educators through an interactive platform. It enables users to:

  • Communicate and collaborate in real-time through chat and discussion spaces.
  • Access AI-powered mentorship for personalized learning recommendations.
  • Share resources, notes, and media files securely.
  • Participate in multilingual learning using integrated translation services.
  • Build academic networks that foster peer-to-peer growth.

By integrating AI and translation technology, ACADEMe removes traditional barriers to global education.

How we built it

  1. Frontend
    We developed the user interface using Flutter, ensuring a responsive and consistent design across Android and iOS.

  2. Backend
    Built with FastAPI, the backend handles authentication, chat management, AI queries, and user interactions through RESTful APIs.

  3. Database and Authentication
    Managed through Firebase, which provides secure authentication and real-time updates.

  4. Realtime Communication
    Firebase was integrated to handle live chat and notifications.

  5. Media Storage
    Cloudinary was used to upload and manage documents and media efficiently.

  6. Multilingual Support
    Implemented LibreTranslate API for real-time translation across supported languages.

  7. AI Assistant
    Gemini 2.0 Flash is used to analyze user queries and recommend relevant learning materials.

Our modular architecture ensures scalability and smooth communication between all components.

Challenges we ran into

While building ACADEMe, we faced several technical and design challenges:

  • Implementing real-time translation without increasing response latency.
  • Managing secure user authentication and data privacy.
  • Ensuring UI consistency and smooth performance across multiple devices.
  • Synchronizing real-time chats and notifications with Firebase.
  • Handling API rate limits and integration stability.
  • Maintaining scalability while keeping the codebase modular and lightweight.

Overcoming these challenges helped us refine our technical skills and improve the system architecture.

  • Expanding to more languages and regions to make education accessible globally.
