Inspiration

As a student and an advisor, I refer back the academic calendar multiple times throughout the semester to identify and assess upcoming dates and deadline. The workflow would typically require me to search on Google "Academic Calendar" numerous times followed by the school name and not to mention searching for the specific deadline we are looking for. This agent simplifies the process, reducing the overall time to query the information leading target users such as staff, 20,000+ students, and faculty.

What it does

This support agent streamlines that entire process. By integrating the academic calendar directly into a chatbot, it allows students, faculty, and staff to instantly access important dates and deadlines without the hassle of searching. Instead of repeatedly Googling the calendar or scrolling through outdated pages, you can simply ask the agent any specific question, whether it’s about registration dates, holidays, or exam schedules and get an immediate in a matter of seconds.

How we built it

I used React for the front end, Supabase for user authentication, and Gemini API to query/return information.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges included setting and integrating the Gemini API, have responses, short, concise, and accurate. Also, integrating Supabase the authentication was a bit difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Completed a MVP which is useful to support a large number of college staff, students, and faculty.

What's next for Advising Bot

A personalization of which classes to select based on the current Degreeworks (Different majors), prerequisites, and corequisites to ensure students have a seamless process during course selection/registration.
