Inspiration
After hearing about so many unfortunate incidents of rape, we decided to create our project to both raise awareness. With features like contacting us, viewing a safety map, and information on how to help, we believe our project will help raise awareness.
What it does
The website is designed to inform and educate others about rape and other abuses, and teaching how to deal with it with resources, hotlines and an interactive map to potentially avoid cases. To Shatter the Silence one day at a time.
How we built it
First, we used Adobe XD and copyright free images from unsplash.com to create the wireframe and used it as a reference guide for our website. Then, we used the platform Qoom to host our code and used HTML, CSS and JavaScript to make the website. We used Figma to create the Interactive Map prototype.
Challenges we ran into
We had many challenges with figuring out the bugs in our code and making everything work. For example, we wanted to try a new program, so we used Adobe XD to create our wireframes. However, incorporating the prototype into our code was much more difficult than incorporating something like Figma. Qoom kept on crashing which disrupted our flow of work. But as a group of 4, we were able to persevere and combat these challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The biggest accomplishment for us was being able to finish the Figma Interactive Map prototype and making it a reality on our website. Finishing our project and being able to submit something to this hackathon is a great accomplishment. We were able to combat these obstacles and try something new with our project.
What we learned
During this hackathon weekend, we learned about the website-making process and Figma prototype process. We learned how to create an interactive map for our Dangerous Places Radar to make a cool project. Additionally, we learned how to communicate and assign tasks for the code and cooperated to make this project.
What's next for Shatter the Silence
We recognize that Shatter the Silence has a lot more potential into becoming an essential tool for all to use. Several topics that can be included are: Continuing to improve our website and adding new features! We are excited what is next for Shatter the Silence and we hope we can make a difference in our community.
