Inspiration

We got inspired by the fact that many modern jobs require a great deal of work experience, so that finding one's first job would be too difficult. We wanted to make something that would break this barrier. We knew that making Indeed 2.0 would have been too plain, so we decided that we would make our own "form" of work experience. Companies can post their jobs onto our platform, and we will use algorithms and generative AI to determine the best candidate. The candidate may not be paid (depending on the job), but they will be eligible to put that company as a work experience. We also integrated some courses, and for companies to have easier hiring, they can select the user's proficiency/certification in a specific course.

What it does

Our website/app integrates courses and career opportunities together. We use many algorithms and AI to determine the best match(es) for a job, and we are able to notify both the candidate and the company. This will help companies with hiring and will help users with the lack of work experience.

How we built it

We started using many ideas of Breaking Barriers, one including a peer-to-peer tutoring plan to help break the access-to-education barrier. We settled on the idea of Absolutely, and we began with some HTML + Javascript canvas running on a local host. Since Ryan (before he quit) and I both don't know much web development, the first step to build a top bar on the website and make it have the modern aesthetic took around 5 hours. We then proceeded to attempt to create the website's content, which unfortunately did not work as planned and we are still continuing with tweaking the code.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge we ran into was the fact that none of us knew web development, so we had to snoop around in some old HTML code that we have written before, to try and find the content that we needed. Our other challenge was the idea, which took us the entirety of Friday to think about. Our biggest challenge was time, which was also the reason why Ryan quit the hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some accomplishments we are proud of are that we have a functional and viable idea, and that we have both improved on our web development skills.

What we learned

We have learned that for our next hackathon that we should not give up, and that we should expand into more coding languages in case we need to create something like this in the future.

What's next for Absolutely

The next thing is that we will get our website and databases functional, and we might reach out to some potential users and hiring companies.
