Inspiration
We were inspired by the current political landscape, especially as access to abortion care becomes increasingly threatened.
What it does
It provides various abortion-related resources to the user such as emotional/medical/legal support, state-by-state policies to learn more about one's region, how to get involved to protect abortion access, and additional resources.
How we built it
We started by using graphic design to plan out the website and the formatting we wanted. Then we split our group of four in half and one half worked on the front end while the other half worked on the back end of the code. We used VS Code Live Share to co-edit the programs.
Challenges we ran into
Firstly, we were all inexperienced with the languages that are typically used for website-building (HTML, CSS, javascript), so we had to watch many tutorials and lots of troubleshooting was involved. Secondly, multiple issues came up with working on multiple files across multiple devices so we had to work through that and retrace our steps at times.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to create a fully functioning website with multiple pages with little to no knowledge of building websites and were able to put together a team of strangers and collaborate well, especially at all of our first hackathon!
What we learned
All of us learned a lot about the various languages and as it was also our first time working on a collective program, it taught us a lot about what collaboration in the CS field looks like as well as what a hackathon can look like.
What's next for Abortion Healthcare Resources
We want to expand the website to have more resources but also be more interactive, rather than just providing links to other sources. Additionally, there are more elements we would like to make user interactions easier such as a search bar.
