AbleNav: Navigating Indoor Spaces with Accessibility in Mind

AbleNav was inspired by my experience with a friend who uses a wheelchair at African Leadership University. Navigating large campuses, convention centers, and airports can be especially challenging for individuals with disabilities. While Google Maps can take you to the entrance, it doesn't provide accessible routes inside these complex spaces, leaving those with mobility challenges to fend for themselves.

I realized there was a need for a solution that guides people with disabilities more effectively through these areas. That’s when I came up with AbleNav, an app that offers real-time, accessible indoor navigation. It provides:

  • Step-by-step directions
  • Highlighted accessible paths
  • Guidance to accessible entrances, bathrooms, and elevators

AbleNav not only supports those with disabilities but also helps everyone move more efficiently through indoor spaces, saving time and reducing frustration.

By offering a more inclusive solution, AbleNav empowers individuals to explore complex environments independently, enhancing accessibility and breaking down barriers for all. It’s a simple idea with a significant impact: ensuring everyone can move through spaces freely and confidently.
